Development Associate

Protect Our Defenders (POD) is the only national organization solely dedicated to ending the epidemic of rape and sexual assault in the military and to combating a culture of pervasive misogyny, sexual harassment, and retribution against victims. We honor, support, and give voice to survivors of military sexual assault and sexual harassment – including service members, veterans, and civilians assaulted by members of the military. We seek reform to ensure all survivors and service members are provided a safe, respectful work environment and have access to a fair, impartially administered system of justice.

We currently have an opening for a part time Development Associate. The Development Associate is responsible for conducting a broad range of development activities that support fundraising goals, including gift entry and acknowledgements, project management, research on donors and prospects, and event planning. The Associate provides administrative support to members of the team. The incumbent also executes a variety of cultivation and stewardship tasks to engage and strengthen relationships with donors.

Job Description:
Assists the Executive Director in the implementation of development plans developed with the CEO and Board of Directors; reaches fundraising targets to support the growth plan of Protect Our Defenders by engaging donors and leveraging relationships to meet revenue goals; submits solicitations and conducts other fundraising activities to maintain a high level of public awareness regarding the importance of philanthropic donations; and supports and furthers the mission of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Executive Director in conducting comprehensive, cost-effective fundraising campaigns within assigned markets from various sources
  • Identify and recruit campaign leaders and Advisory Board members, and create a formal organization campaign strategy
  • Assist the Executive Director in establishing local campaign goals, including planning and implementing campaign strategies consistent with POD national action plans and policies
  • Establish and manage relationships with current donors; maintain current database of donors and donations
  • Assist with identification of potential donors; help set appropriate targets and designs; implement annual fundraising plans
  • Develop and submit solicitation proposals; design, develop, and implement special fundraising events and campaigns
  • Assist and distribute campaign materials and develop communication/promotional programs in support of local fundraising efforts

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • May supervise volunteers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.)
  • At least 3 years experience in fundraising, marketing, or public relations
  • Passion for and interest in the mission of Protect Our Defenders
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience and accuracy with database skills using a fundraising CRM
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
