Survivor Support

   Mission:
We honor, support, and give voice
to the brave men and women in uniform who have been raped or sexually assaulted by fellow service members. We seek to fix the military training, investigation and adjudication systems related to sexual violence, systems that often re-victimize survivors by blaming them while failing to prosecute perpetrators.

NBC Rock Center with Brian Williams to air report 9/27 10pm ET on widespread sexual violence in military

Posted by POD Staff, September 27th, 2012

NBC’s Rock Center with Brian Williams will air report at 10pm ET on Thursday, September 27 regarding widespread sexual violence in the US military. Survivor Darchelle Mitchell, whose story we feature on our website, shares her story with NBC.

Each year, more than 3000 military men and women report being sexually assaulted by fellow service members. Officials say the number of actual assaults is far higher, closer to 19,000. Of the cases that are reported, only a fraction are prosecuted.  Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta admitted that for decades this has been a problem the military has swept under the rug.  Natalie Morales’ full report airs Thursday, Sept. 27 at 10pm/9c on NBC’s Rock Center with Brian Williams.

Watch the show preview.
