LGR: Former VT Adjutant General Martha Rainville Supports Independent Military Judicial Structure

Former Vermont National Guard Adjutant General and Retired Air Force Major General Martha Rainville came out in support of a proposed non-biased and objective military justice system for victims of sexual assault in the military. Rainville said, in part, that “This substantive and visible change will support a safer environment for all of our military men and women,” and “will contribute to a stronger and more effective force.”

Rainville was the first woman in the hundred year history of the National Guard to serve as a state Adjutant General. She spent 27 years in the Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard.  Rainville served as Vermont’s Adjutant General from 1995 to 2006. The position is filled by someone offering up their name in candidacy to the Vermont General Assembly and then winning the vote in the Assembly.
