Politico: DoD IG Report finds flaws in sexual assault investigations

Protect Our Defenders on Politico:

A Pentagon inspector general report found that 11 percent of DoD criminal investigations of sexual assaults had “significant deficiencies.” The remaining 89 percent met or exceeded investigative standards, DoD IG said in its report.

But a spokesman for Protect Our Defenders, a nonprofit that represents victims of sex crimes in the military, is taking issue. “Protect Our Defenders regularly hears from victims of botched investigations, victim blaming, loss of evidence, and a general disbelief of the victim,” spokesman Brian Purchia tells Morning D. Recommendations in the IG report include better documentation of investigative interviews and collection of physical evidence.
