Survivors speak out as Army faces reckoning over years of alleged abuse at the hands of a military doctor

Washington, DC – New charges filed this week against suspended Army gynecologist Maj. Blaine McGraw expanded the case to 273 specifications and 96 alleged victims across two military installations over seven years, with a preliminary hearing set for Tuesday, May 26, at Fort Hood.

POD’s Pro Bono Legal Network is representing survivors at the hearing. If you are a survivor in the McGraw case and are seeking pro bono legal support in connection with the criminal process, please find more information about POD’s Legal Services Program here.

Protect Our Defenders Founder and CEO, Nancy Parrish, released the following statement:

“Ninety-six victims. Seven years. Two bases. And the Army is just now asking questions.

“These women who put their health and safety in a doctor’s hands, and for seven years, no one stopped him. How does a predator move from Hawaii to Texas and keep practicing medicine on those he was sworn to protect? Military leadership must answer that at Tuesday’s hearing and beyond.

“The Army provides the best legal counsel for the accused and none for the victims. Congress mandated that the military connect survivors with outside support services like Protect Our Defenders, and the Pentagon continues to defy that law. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is gutting the very oversight and prevention programs designed to stop exactly this kind of abuse. This didn’t have to happen, and we must hold every person in that chain of command accountable.”
